Causes of Acne
The cause of acne can be determined from a variety of factors. Generally speaking, the cause of acne is due to dead skin and oil building up in a pore. The pores of your skin contain oil glands, which lubricates your hair and skin. The cause of acne can therefore be reduced to four general categories:
- Natural hormones
Hormones are continuously present in you body throughout your life, however, during the teenage years, hormones become much more active.
- Clogged Pores
When a large number of skin cells collect on the surface, they can clog the oil glands or pores, creating blackheads or whiteheads.
- Bacteria
Bacteria thrives on oil and can easily infect oil glands and pores. Bad infections can result creating the typical pimple or cyst (which are more infectious than a standard pimple. Cysts are also the types that cause the most scaring).
- Genetics
If a parent had bad acne as a teenager, the likelihood of passing on those hormones and/or sensitive skin is very good.
Despite the fact that acne is caused by a number of uncontrollable variables, there is much that can be done in the way of acne care and acne treatment.
