Pregnancy Acne
Pregnancy acne is common for most women due to the changing hormone levels at the various stages of pregnancy. Oily skin is produced in larger amounts due to the fluctuations in hormone levels which cause pores to become blocked and infected. Pregnancy acne usually develops around the mother's mouth, shoulders, chest and back, but can occur anywhere on the body as well.
The use of drugs to treat pregnancy acne can be a serious concern for mothers-to-be. Oral medications can cause unwanted side effects for the mothers and babies alike. Some oral medications may in fact prove dangerous for an unborn child. Therefore, it is best to avoid taking any oral acne medications or treatments while pregnant. A topical cream is usually the best bet. Topical creams or ointments can help clear up acne while protecting your child from any unwanted side effects.
