Acne Rosacea
Acne rosacea is a term used to describe the condition of redness that occurs on the face. Often confused with acne vulgaris (common acne), acne rosacea is not related to common acne. Acne rosacea is a redness that develops in stages. Initially, over-exasperated blushing results that later develops into permanent redness around the nose and cheeks. Rosacea can appear by age 20-30 and peak by age 40-50.
Fair-skinned people are most prone to rosacea, especially those of Celtic or Northern European heritage. Women are generally more effected than men (3:1 ratio), but men can develop a more severe case known as rhinophyma (an enlarged, bumpy nose).
One factor relating to acne rocacea is sun exposure. Sun screen or other sun-blocking products should be used when outdoors to decrease the effects of rocacea.
