Acne Vulgaris
Acne Vulgaris is the most common type of acne. Acne vulgaris is the term used to describe the skin condition which has clogged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), inflamed pimples (pustules), and deeper lumps (nodules). This common acne occurs mostly on the face, but can appear anywhere on the body including the neck, chest, back, upper arms, and buttocks. Acne vulgaris is common mostly amongst teens, but adults in their 20's, 30's, 40's or older can develop this as well. Even infants can develop baby acne.
This type of acne problem is caused by a number of factors including genetic disposition, clogged pores, oily skin, poor hygiene, diet, sleep, and stress. A pimple is formed when dead skin and oil clog a pore which causes bacteria to grow. The bacteria grows in the clogged pore, then infects the pore creating a pimple (which manifests as a blackhead or a whitehead). Most of these factors can be diminished and/or eliminated in order to treat an acne problem. If an acne treatment is not used, acne vulgaris can result in disfiguring physical and emotional scarring.
